Seahorse Dive Center is located in Unawatuna, on the beautiful southern coast of Sri Lanka, offering a full range of diving experiences and PADI certification programs.
Whether you're trying scuba diving for the first time, joining us for fun dives, continuing your diving education or working toward becoming a Divemaster, our experienced local team is here to guide you every step of the way.
With more than 20 years of local diving experience in Unawatuna, we know the waters, dive sites and conditions of the area. From beginner-friendly dives to exciting reefs and historic shipwrecks, we offer diving experiences for every level.
Our story
How it all started
Seahorse Dive Center was built from Rohana Kithsiri's passion for diving and his deep connection to the waters of Unawatuna.
In 2004, the Indian Ocean tsunami devastated the area and took away everything he had built. It was an incredibly difficult time, but Rohana refused to give up. He started again, rebuilding step by step and coming back stronger than before.
Over the years, Seahorse Dive Center grew into a place where divers from around the world could discover the underwater world of Unawatuna and Galle. Through years of diving, learning and sharing the ocean with guests, Rohana developed a deep knowledge of the local waters and dive sites.
Today, Seahorse continues to grow while staying true to what started it all - Rohana's love for diving, the ocean and Unawatuna.

Family-run
Seahorse Dive Center today
Seahorse Dive Center is a family-run dive center, founded by Dive Instructor Rohana Kithsiri and now managed together with his son, Kevin Gimsara.
Rohana brings more than 20 years of local diving experience, while Kevin manages the day-to-day operations and works alongside our young team of instructors and dive staff.
Together, the family and team continue to grow Seahorse while keeping its focus on safe, professional and personal diving experiences.

How we got here
March 2005
The Beginning of Seahorse Diving
Seahorse Diving was born from a deep passion for the ocean and a dream to share Sri Lanka's underwater beauty with the world. What started as a small local initiative in Unawatuna soon became a trusted name among both beginner and experienced divers.
October 2010
Officially a PADI Dive Centre
We became a certified PADI Dive Centre, ensuring international safety and training standards for all our divers. This milestone marked the beginning of a new chapter of professionalism and excellence.
May 2014
Expanding Experiences
We began offering a wider range of scuba diving courses, from beginner programs to advanced certifications, attracting divers from around the globe who wanted to explore Unawatuna's vibrant coral reefs and marine life.
July 2019
Recognition and Growth
Seahorse Diving became one of the most recommended dive centers on the South Coast for its professionalism, friendly instructors, and commitment to eco-friendly diving practices.
March 2022
Reopening After COVID-19
After the global pandemic, we reopened our doors with renewed energy and improved facilities - ready to welcome back our dive family from all over the world.
